Today was picnic day at Conestoga Gardens…our secret garden (actually, it’s everyone’s "secret" now). It’s been written up in magazines, like "Better Homes and Gardens," and various newspapers and periodicals. So what started as our secret garden eight years ago is now a mecca for those who long to have a green thumb and a garden like the Conestoga.

We packed a light lunch and picnicked by the pool, took in the rose garden, the water lilies and roamed the expansive mansion at our leisure. The Conestoga Gardens is owned by the Steinman Sisters who are the heirs to the Lancaster Newspaper, but their philanthropy extends beyond just the newspaper. They open their home—to the public once a week so that others can enjoy the grandeur of this tropical paradise.

I snapped photos of roses, children playing in the animal topiaries, and water lilies.

Taking photographs is one of my passions; I feel like a new person when I return home...like I have been on an extended vacation.

If you’re ever in Lancaster County, I’d love to take you to our secret garden.

Gorgeous photos! I'd love to try and make it out your way before y'all retire and head west. Beautiful gardens. :)

You bet...let me know the day! It's open from June through September. Just minutes from our home, it's where you'll find us every Wednesday. Mark did just fine with his cane (I was holding on to his belt buckle!). There are quite a few cobblestone paths until you get to the pool area.

Often I hear remarks, "I never knew this place was here!" I smile and think, "Yep, this one is hooked already!"

Wow...coming from "Ms. National Geographic" I consider that a real compliment.

Truly, this place is so gorgeous... everywhere you look is another photograph to be snapped up. After a day there, I actually dream about it at night!

HUGS!

Hey Connie,

Long time since we've emailed. Not sure if you remember me, we met on Shoutlife. Anyway, so glad I found your garden photos. I so love to take pictures too. Sounds like a serene place I'd love to visit someday.

Take care!
Tiffany

Guess what? Tomorrow is picnic day again (every Wednesday). I look forward to it every week...more photos because something is always in bloom.

God's creation is amazing...
