The Dirt on Mother's Day!

“Happy Mother’s Day!” I said to my sister who called from California. “How does Mom like the flowers I sent her?” I asked.

My sister, Sherrie, hesitated and said, “Oh, I can see the bulbs in the dirt right now,” she replied.

“Whaaaaat,” I shrieked.

“Bulbs and dirt? I ordered tulips!” I whined.

It seems that a certain 1-800 company had advertised “blooming tulips,” when in fact they were “blooming bulbs,” which were delivered by a certain package company (which will remain nameless) that just happened to turn the box upside down on the front steps of my parent's home -- dirt and all.

My original thought was a great one: Send a basket full of tulips—in every conceivable color—that would grace the dining room table, and then my mom could plant them in her garden after they withered away. That way Mom could have a reminder—every year—of the once gorgeous centerpiece!

I thought it was unlike my mom to comment briefly on my “bouquet” in her last e-mail. She wrote, “I can’t wait for the tulips to sprout from the dirt.”

Umm...

This Mother’s Day will be remembered for weeks to come and I’m sure I’ll get the “dirt” on the tulips for quite some time.

Happy Mom’s Day everyone!

Oh, no! That's just NOT RIGHT! :(
When will they bloom? This year or next?

Happy belated Mother's Day to you, Connie!
