“Not last night, but the night before…” I was about to comment on my blog when I found an error (not unusual!). It was a typo! I know what you’re thinking…so what? Not that it really matters, but at that single moment in time it bugged me, so I went in to edit my post and somehow deleted the entire blog!
I love life’s little surprises.
Fortunately, I had opened my blog into two separate windows and so I cut and pasted it back where it belonged. If you’re reading this for the second time you’re not having a déjà vu experience, you’re enjoying the benefits of my error!
Confused yet?
I’ve discovered something about my personality (one of those hidden traits). When I have a million things going at the same time (Mark’s doctor appointments, pool therapy, getting ready to leave for a speaking engagement, writing deadlines, client deadlines, cleaning, shopping…), my brain goes on overload and shuts itself off. There’s a medical term for it, but it’s like autopilot. You know the feeling: you’re driving and you got to your destination safely but you don’t know how you got there? Now take that one step further and you’re right at the place I was the other night.
Scary, huh?
My brain short circuits typically around 1:00 a.m. The laptop in my frontal lobe shuts itself down into a dormant state and stays there until I go into “alarm” mode (like when I deleted my blog), and then I immediately wake up!
Today is catch-up day: no appointments, no deadlines, and no major crises. I’m peaceful and enjoying the “pause” before I have another, “oh where or where did my little blog go” moment!

You poor thing! I'm always afraid of that happening to me. I think I'd die.
Tomorrow I'll be linking to your blog, so look for a little extra traffic, quite possibly. Along with that link is the answer to your ice cream question. :) Then Friday I'll be talking about what happened to Mark.
Have a fun day playing catch up! And get some sleep!
Wow, Flea, so I'm not the only one who would "die" if their blog was deleted?!?! (That's a relief!)
That's so cool, I'm going to link you TOO (let's see if I can remember how to do that without deleting my entire blog AGAIN!).
Ice cream...let me guess (rocky road?). I'm off to go buy some Ben and Jerry's "something," I'll let you know what I find (smile!).
Now I can use the excuse, my "patient" was hungry for ice cream!
HUGS!
Hey - life would grind to a halt if anything happened to my blog!
As Flea mentioned - her reference to you has brought me to your site. I will be praying that your husband recovers fully and I will defintely be back to visit you again.
Thanks so much for this post Connie. I came back the other day after leaving a comment and discovered that not only did my comment go away but the entire post was gone. Then I started thinking that maybe I had imagined the post and the comment and that I was in one of those auto pilot moments you spoke about and none of this really happened. Do you ever get the feeling that you maybe have some mild form of dementia? When I get overloaded I repeat myself and my wife says: Greg you just asked me that. We need some down time when that happens. I am taking some starting tomorrow but I will still blog.
Greg,
You have to read this article: http://www.nytimes.com/2007/04/29/health/29chemo.html
We used to call it "chemo fog," but researchers are now finding that because cancer survivors are living longer, they present an entirely new set of symptoms. We discussed many of them at the Weekend of Hope in Stowe, VT, and research is ongoing about our so-called "cognitive disorder" after massive doses of chemo, radiation, and hormonal therapy. One of the physicians who spoke is a 12-year breast cancer survivor herself who still treats patients. Yikes! She found the toaster in the refrigerator and the milk in the cabinet and wondered "who" put them there. Smile!
The good news: We're still alive and thriving. The bad news: We sometimes do strange things like using someone else's toothbrush or find things "disappearing"--like our brain.
For the most part, it doesn't rattle me like it used to, because I've found ways to compensate. I'm a detailed note taker. My OCD actually helps me because I check and recheck what I'm doing. As a writer, I can laugh about the stuff that happens to me or write about it (another great coping mechanism!).
Don't worry, Greg, you're fine! I love the book, "I'm okay...you're okay!"
What on Oopps moment! Yikes! I'm glad you didn't lose it totally, your blog and your mind :)
Love ya, and hope you have a great day!
Dlyn,
How wonderful...a new "face" to LLP blogspot. And Flea invited you (isn't she the best!). I jumped over to your blog--what awesome photography (my passion too!), and that recipe for the salad. Oh yummy; I can't wait to fix it!
Thanks for dropping by...I'll be back to your site for more photos and recipes!
Oh Susan,
Isn't that the worst feeling...bye-bye blog? Last night I dreamed I lost my websites (so guess what I did this morning...copied and pasted those into a Word Document). I'm not paranoid (really!).
This too shall pass (in a good way!).
HUGS!
Susan,
My heart skipped a couple of beats (I even dreamed about it last night and rushed to the computer again this morning to make sure everything was in its proper place!). Now when I shut down my computer, it's like check to see if the refrigerator light is still on when you close the door.
This too shall pass (in a good way!).
HUGS
Godiva makes the most wonderful chocolate raspberry truffle ice cream imaginable. Especially good if you don't care for crunchy ice cream. :) But not good if you've given up ice cream. :(
That's the ticket! I just got back from taking Mark to pool therapy; Jon informed me that his fraternity brothers are coming to spend the night before a wedding on Saturday, and I'm getting ready for NY to speak at a cancer survivor luncheon...I don't "want" ice cream...I NEED IT!
Thanks for the recommendation!
HUGS!
Oh, I'm so glad you're still here!
Oh Jan...I'm still here (thankfully!). So good to hear from you!
HUGS!
Connie and Mark,
You are in our prayers. I also put you on the Bold & Free prayer list.
(((((h)))))
Jan,
You are simply amazing! What a wonderful ministry you have started!
DOUBLE HUGS!
After 40-some years I'm finally getting the hang of discovering when I've hit my "shut-down" point! The other night I was zipping through some technical issues when my mental trouble-shooter stalled. Instead of trying to force my way through it -- through sheer power of will -- I decided to sleep on it. The next morning, I untangled my final challenge within minutes. Ahhh, the powers of restraint and rest!
Umm...I like that idea: restraint and rest! I need to try that this evening. Okay, I'm shutting down and putting my feet up.
Thanks Brenda! Glad you stopped by.
