How to Make Every Day Great!

The past couple of days have been “interesting” to say the least.

Usually, my summers are spent in writing, but there hasn’t been a whole lot of time for that. Instead, it seems like I’m writing speaking contracts. It doesn’t take a lot of creative talent to do that…you just change the date and the fee!

As all writers, I have my writing goals before me each day, but somehow they keep getting pushed down to the bottom of the list. My “patient” is getting better, which means he wants to be taken out to “play” every day at the pool (therapy). I promised myself when Mark broke his hip, that I would take care of the “caregiver” as much as I was taking care of him. Well, I think at this point, I need to take an assertiveness training course and learn how to say, “No.”

Today I got out my “Ten Rules to Making Every Day a GREAT DAY!” I have no idea who gave it to me, but it’s been in my Bible for years and this morning I read each one out loud. I hope that it helps you as much as it has helped me today. I even went out and took some photographs at a nearby garden. When I’m not taking care of my garden, my garden is taking care of me.

Ten Rules to a Great Day:

1. Think and expect that good things will happen!
2. Express gratitude to a loved one!
3. Let go of your grievances.
4. Be patient with an annoying person (oops!).
5. Do something special for yourself (see photos!).
6. Reach out to someone who needs comfort.
7. Live and fully experience the present moment!
8. Learn from a mistake.
9. Look closely into a flower and see and experience its true beauty.
10. SMILE all day and LAUGH as often as you can!

Have a Great Day Everyone!

It's so easy to get caught up in the business of life and it's important to remeber to take personal time. Especially while caregiving.

I can't help but think that this experience will help round out your speaking engagements since you've now experience both roles.

Praying for you both.

Blessings!

Great list my friend. I hope you get to some of that writing :) I need to sit down and write a coverletter for a magazine submission. The story is ready to go, but I've been dragging my feet on the coverletter!

I'm glad to hear that Mark is doing well, considering the type of injury he sustained :)

Beautiful gardens too!

I had to remind myself to put that smile on this morning but usually it comes naturally. I think I will borrow that list from you. Thanks.

Oh I almost forgot. How dare you try to kill me by telling me to eat fresh tomatos with the bacterial scare going on. :) It's ok I do eat them anyway.

Oh, I think I'm working on the book on caregiving: what people have said, done, and most of all my "inner" thoughts. I've been keeping a journal. Oops...I just heard a crash (my husband dropped a glass and it went CRASH). Gotta run!

HUGS!

Susan,

Get the cover letter done (smile!). I know... (listen to me?!?!). I'm not writing or submitting these days...I'm trying to survive!

HUGS!

I wasn't trying to "kill" you, Greg (really!). I've been out of touch lately. Jay Leno
(Tonight Show) made a joke about how to lose weight fast (and he mentioned tomatoes!). I asked my husband, "Did you get that joke?" I went to the store earlier and there were no tomatoes?!?! Hmm...I need to listen to the "news" more often. The problem: We grow our own tomatoes and they should be ready in July, but sometimes I do buy tomotoes at the store. Ugh. They are tasteless.

Okay, stay away from tomatoes for now, because we can't have anything happen to you!

Love the list. Glad you're remembering to take care of the caretaker. :) And thanks for the reminder to take care of me. Time for a nap.

We had company from out of town, so I worked in the garden, scrubbed floors, fixed lunch, did the laundry and took a nap! Guess what my favorite part of the day was? :)

I am so glad to hear Mark is doing well with his recovery. We all miss his infectious smile and his wonderful sense of humor. Not a day goes by that your name does not come up. I was at a customer this morning that asked how your were doing. Get well my friend and please, let me buy you a cold beverage as soon as you are able.

To your continued recovery!

Lyndon,

How great to see you here! I'll pass on your "get well" thoughts to Mark. He's in physical therapy right now, and usually returns home exhausted. They work him hard and he gets frustrated at his progress.

Your comment will cheer him up!
