Weekend of Hope!
There's no better time to celebrate spring than to enjoy a weekend in the crisp, clean air of Stowe, Vermont. It's a weekend for cancer survivors and their families to come together to celebrate the gift of life. There are workshops, keynotes, and fun activities for the entire family. This is a once-a-year event (May 2-4, 2008), but the inspiration you receive will last the rest of your life.
It was four years ago that I first attended with my husband and it not only started me on my healing journey from cancer, but allowed me to pursue my passion for writing. The friends I've made there have become friends for life. This year I will be presenting, "Writing to Heal" and "Writing to Publish." Last year, one of the workshop attendees informed me, she just got published in a magazine for cancer survivors. How exciting to know so many are sharing their stories of survival and allowing others to catch a glimpse of hope!

How wonderful! My dear grandmom (you met her at our Willow Grove B&N book event) just informed me today she got her results back from her cancer doctor. She continues to be cancer-free. It's her nine-year anniversary.
It's tough though because her niece was cancer free for eight years and now it is back and in the lymph nodes. I asked how my Aunt was doing (technically she is my Dad's cousin and she lives in Michigan). My Nanna said she just got back from Florida. She is doing well and just living whatever remaining days God has given her and enjoying every moment.
Thank you Connie for being an instrument of God's hope for people. The joy of the Lord is our strength!
What a great event. Each year I participate in Camp Happy Days. It is a summer camp for children with cancer. It too is a great event and it will not only break your heart it will make you thank God for all you have. Have fun this year. Wish I could attend. I have never been to Vermont.
Greg,
That's wonderful..."Happy Days" for children!
The Weekend of Hope is unique in that it is FREE for cancer survivors and their families. The wonderful community of Stowe opens up their arms and their resorts to allow cancer survivors a weekend of fun, learning, and relaxation. Every year the weather has been gorgeous! I hear they've had a lot of snow this year, so spring may be coming late!
just stopping in to say hello. This sounds like a wonderful event.
Susan, I'm so glad your grandmom is doing so well. Yes, I do remember meeting her. What a blessing she is and I praise God for her good health. You should tell her about the Weekend of Hope. She would love it!
Sharon, great to hear from you! I'll be out in California in October for my brother's wedding in Del Mar (near San Diego). It will be one of those fly by's. I'm speaking in Wisconsin on the 3rd of October, then fly to San Diego on the 4th, and fly back the next day--the 5th. It seems I'll be spending more time in the air than on the ground!
HUGS!
What a beautiful celebration of life!
How amazing to realize that at the Weekend of Hope, four years ago, I began my healing journey into writing. It's a joy and a privilege to return each year to the place where God laid on my heart to quit my "day" job and write full-time. I haven't looked back.
There's still time to register, so if you know anyone who is a cancer survivor, be sure to pass on the information. They can register at www.stowehope.org.
HUGS!
